The origin and the family
Yana Yutskovskaya was born on August 18, 1971 in Krivoy Rog city, where her mother’s family was living. Her grandfather Abram Abramovich Melnik came from a family of German resettlers was a miner. In adolescence, he was captured and taken to Germany. He did not like talking about this period of his life, because he was being beaten there and it was difficult to survive. Despite the difficulties, he managed to survive, came back home, got back on his feet, created a family and his main aim was to provide a decent life to his family.
The grandmother on the maternal line Lydia Konstantinovna De Retz came from the French immigrants’ family. She is the example of the woman who devoted herself to her family. The mother Alexandra Alexandrovna Yutskovskaya (Melnik) was born and raised in Krivoy Rog, graduated from the faculty of mathematics and worked as a teacher at school for more than 30 years.
The father Alexander Dmitrievich Yutskovsky was born in Kazakhstan, because his mother Maria Estafievna Grodskaya was sent there during an evacuation at the beginning of the Great Patriotic War. In a freight train, the pregnant woman got to a Kazakh outback where she gave birth to her son Alexander. Her husband Dmitry Alexandrovich Yutskovsky was the chair of the Jewish community in Lvov. At the beginning of the Great Patriotic War, he was captured and taken to Germany. He was held there in terrible conditions and died in 1943. Maria Estafievna came from the noble Polish family, which was the part of the famous Potocki family. Her father was a driver of the tsar’s train. This position was very respected at that time. She got married at the age of 15, as her husband was a Jew; she was almost excommunicated from the family. After the war, the family came back to Bila Tserkva (Kiev region). Finishing a school Alexander started working at the aircraft factory to support his family.
Alexander Dmitrievich Yutskovsky entered the medical university rather late. The legend of the family says that it was done on a dare. He managed to become a student of a medical university in Ternopol. Then he moved to Zaporozhye medical Institute, and graduated from it at the age of 29. Yana’s parents met on the beach in Berdyansk on the Azov Sea in August, and in December they got married and in two years Yana was born. Alexander Dmitrievich defended his candidate thesis and he was offered a job in Africa, Uganda. He worked there for three years, gathering information for the doctoral thesis. At the age of 46, he defended his PhD thesis “Immunology of fungal infections”. After successful defense of the thesis, Alexander Dmitrievich was offered a job in several universities in different cities: Simferopol, Ryazan and Vladivostok. The family decided to move to distant port city Vladivostok.
On the historical day of August 19, 1991 Yutskovsky family left Zaporozhye for Moscow being in the USSR and came to Vladivostok being already in CIS. They were supposed to get a flat, the position and the appropriate living conditions. On their way to Vladivostok, with the change of the country changed the situation in national science. As a result, all the arrangements expired. Professor Yutskovsky’s family got a room in a dormitory and started living there. During 4 years Alexander Dmitrievich was practicing medicine, scientific activity and was earning money to buy a flat. With a partner, he opened the first private clinic of dermatology in Vladivostok “Sanas”. Then he sold his share and founded his own clinic “Medrosa”. Since 1997, he was working as a head doctor at the public clinic “Medical cosmetology clinic” and formed a team, which is still working. In 2007, the clinic got a new legal status “Yutskovsky’s Professorial Clinic”. In 2012, the clinic celebrated the 20th anniversary.
The family provided Yana Yutskovskaya with excellent education. While the parents were working in Africa, her grandmother Maria Estafievna was teaching her the rules of etiquette since the childhood (for example, the table was always served considering all the rules). She was taking along her granddaughter to the opera, dressing her like a young lady. As Yana was getting older, her grandmother taught her how to understand vines. Yana was going to a special school and studied English from the first year study and graduated from a music school with honors (piano). At the entrance exams, she was asked: “Who do you want to be? Yana’s answer- cosmetologist- was confusing. Who are cosmetologists? At that time cosmetology was not treated like medicine and it was not in demand.
In 1994, Yana Yutskovskaya graduated from the medical faculty of the Zaporozhye Medical Institute and moved to Vladivostok to her family. In 1994, she entered a postgraduate program at the Pathological Physiology Department, specialty allergology-immunology in the Vladivostok medical University. She was living with a 2-year-old son Alexander in a dormitory. As she did not have the certificate of dermatologist, she had to work as a nurse in her father’s clinic. In 1995, she got a retraining course in Dermatovenerology. In total, she worked for 4 years as a dermatovenerologist at the outpatient reception. In 1997, at the age of 25 she defended her candidate thesis on the topic “Immunomodulatory Therapy of Allergic Dermatoses in Seafood” (the topic was chosen for her). Yana always wanted to have professional independence, but her father always taught her that it needs to be deserved. Therefore, at the age of 25 she started working at the doctoral thesis. As usual, she was doing everything by herself.
She has been a dermatologist since 1994. When she started to work at her father’s clinic, she became a head of department. Holding this post, she faced with difficulties of economic activity. To be able to cope with them, she learnt a profession of an accountant.
